IT certifications are hot topics in any IT firm. Most of the IT certifications are vendor specific which provides certification at various levels of the technology platform in use. For example, a certification in core Java will be on the basics of Java technology platform which is followed by another certification in advanced Java which will focus on the advance concepts of Java. IT certifications attract a lot of students and professional from time to time, but there are some mistakes which can be made while selecting a certification to be pursued.
The most common mistakes which a candidate can make while selecting an IT certification are as follows:
Opt for a popular certification than to go for what you love to do: Professionals as well as students tend to choose an IT certification that's "hot" in the market rather than choosing a certification which is of their interest. It becomes essential to choose a certification based on the topics of the candidate's interest and follow the trends in the world of IT certifications.
Lack of relevant experience to back an IT certification: the actual benefit of achieving an IT certification can be derived only when it backed by relevant experience in the concerned field of IT.
Depending only on certification exam study material and not opting for an instructor-led program: This would be most common mistake which a candidate can do when he decides to pursue a certification in IT. It is very important to attend instructor-led training classes as knowledge from course books and other resources would not be sufficient.
Carefully selecting the training program vendor: When a candidate opts for a training program, the credibility of the training company should be check and verified. This is essential to ensure that a candidate gets the best training possible with ample practical sessions.
